Assam Housing and Rehabilitation Project inauguration
For the first time, Indian Census 2001 has brought out a figure of 13 million ‘houseless holds’, each household accounting for 5-6 members, the total population of such houseless being at least 6.5 crores in the Country.
Although government, PSU, NGOs have been taking initiatives, yet satisfactory result is not seen. Either in metros or rural areas, the population of shelterless people is increasing day by day due to unequal distribution of wealth and the mindset of majority to run away from the truth.
In the prevailing circumstances, the simple act is to blame & debate. But a sustainable holistic solution is the need of the hour to achieve this fate and dream of a just and equitable society.
Rehab India Foundation has started a project with a goal to serve homeless with a home. This project has developed a proven and effective program to assist persons in overcoming chronic homelessness. The continuum consists low cost housing and comprehensive services, including healthcare, education and employment. The model is developed for delivering services to the homeless community by bringing back to mainstream development.
